Mental Note

pink post-it with scribbles on a bulletin board

I was finishing up my ten minute daily yoga practice in savasana (corpse pose). My kids were trying to occupy themselves while I took a moment for myself. My littlest was coloring, restlessly waiting, and peppering me with questions less than five feet from my yoga mat. I felt tight and distracted and was struggling to drop in to the meditative, resting pose. To be honest, I also felt annoyed and was thinking, “I just need ten minutes!” Then, THWAP! I received a mental note.

I opened my eyes and found a pink post-it tapped squarely on my forehead. It had a scribble on it. The message was clear – my littlest was done waiting. I laughed, stood up, and started rolling up my mat. The mental note was an offering and a reminder that connection matters most.

Regulation occurs in a moment of mindful awareness. Regulation does not necessarily mean calm.

Regulation means “connected.”

Sometimes, I get caught up in the constriction of life. I feel stuck in a tight place where there is never enough time or energy. However, when I choose to let go of the scarcity mindset and the competition for my time, my perspective shifts. As I allow it all to be part of my flowing life (on and off the mat), often there is a slight opening that creates spaciousness inside me. That spaciousness helps me show up gentler and softer to those around me.

My daily invitation is to keep that post-it note offering stuck squarely in my mind so that I can show up as my most connectable self and flow into the next transition.
