As part of my own resilience nurturing, I doodle and allow space for my creative side to help me process what I am sensing and feeling. The addition of therapeutic art exercises to my Coaching Toolkit has helped me lean in to this creative exploration. Recently, as I doodled and listened, I felt a restless nudge to share how I teach the “Key Principles of Economics” differently, inviting a Generational Perspective.
As a result, in deep gratitude for our Household, Planet Earth, I offer my doodle of Principles of ECO~mmunity:
Principles of ECO~mmunity
Questions I’m exploring to Invite the Generational Perspective:
- How could we center OUR ECO (Household) in OUR nomics (Management)? (Where did the word “economics” come from?)
- How would inviting “OUR” instead of “The” before Economy shift OUR perspectives? (Solidarity Economics)
- How could we shift OUR mindset to emphasize THRIVING in OUR Household instead of unsustainable, unending growth? (Doughnut Economics)
- How would OUR future economy shift if we invited centering, collaborating, and connection skills into our economics curriculum? (Dovetail Learning Patterns & Skills)
- How could we think at the margin, standing with the marginalized in our community?
As a member of OUR Household and an educator I WANT and NEED to teach in a way that shifts the mindset, inviting a Generational Perspective.
May WE Co-create OUR future ECO~mmunity and May OUR House Hold.
How do YOU invite a Generational Perspective?
I am eager to learn new techniques and strategies and collaborate with those who are also exploring and grappling with the questions above. As I shared in my Shifts for Returning to the Classroom, I continue to challenge myself to Build In the Pause, Widen the Perspective, and Invite my students into Co-creation in my teaching. One of the ways I do that is to include an activity inviting my students to think deeper about the “Key Principles of Economics”. If you teach Economics or an “Economics-adjacent” subject and are curious how you can Build In ONE assignment/activity into your course and Invite Co-creation of OUR future ECO~mmunity, please reach out!
Let’s get there together with and for OUR generations to come!
Knowing that you love the Earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that Earth loves you in return, that relationship transforms from a one-way street to a sacred bond.
