Welcome to Small Shifts Matter! I’m so glad you’re here.
My name is Tiffany Sargent. I’m a certified We Are Resilient™ Coach and I am passionate about helping people and groups nurture their inner resilience.
First, let’s pause…
Let’s pause and center. I would like to invite you to put a hand on your heart and a hand on your belly.
Take a deep, mindful breath.
Feel the breath completely as it enters your nose or mouth, fills your lungs and belly, and then gently exhales out.
Maybe take another one or two and consider, holding the inhale at the top for a few seconds, then extending the exhale for just a bit longer than the inhale.
What do you notice? Any shifts in your body?
Now, let’s dig in…
In this blog, I offer…
- practices that help me center and bring awareness to my mind and body
- some insights and stories from my own journey of healing and growth
- small shifts that I am making to orient toward wholeness in my daily life
- meditations and illustrations that highlight how protective patterns show up for me and how the resilient mindsets help me stay curious and choose to use a centering practice
- examples of how I integrate the framework and somatic practices into my teaching

What are somatic practices?
A key aspect of my coaching is offering, practicing, and integrating somatic and mindfulness practices. Somatic practices use the mind-body connection to help us access our internal awareness and listen to the signals our body sends us. Somatic practices can help us release the trauma and stress that is stored in our body. They can also help us find openings within ourselves by expanding internal capacity and creativity. Some examples of somatic practices are bilateral movements blended with meditation, breathing exercises, and/or body scans.
What is the We Are Resilient™ framework?
I offer these practices within the framework of We Are Resilient™ from Dovetail Learning. This framework is based on the idea that we all have inner resilience and we can nurture and strengthen it through practice. The approach helps us to understand how our nervous system responds to stress and learn simple skills to bring emotional regulation. Then, given that regulation, we can communicate effectively and improve our relationships.
Some of the skills that the framework teaches are:
- Protective Patterns: recognizing the habitual ways we react to stress and trauma, such as avoiding, attacking, or freezing.
- Centering Skills: skills that help bring ourselves back to a state of balance and calm when we feel overwhelmed or activated.
- Resourcing: identifying the people, places, activities, and memories that support us and make us feel safe and connected.
- Self-nurturing: taking care of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs on a regular basis.
By combining the We Are Resilient™ framework with somatic and mindfulness practices, I help individuals and teams bring greater awareness to their protective patterns. We find openings where there are obstacles/constriction in their present challenges, and find creative clarity and collaboration.
